This series of drawings started as a test: a test of a new material, a new paper size, and most importantly, of a new work format.
We just stood together in front of a white surface and began drawing.
The result surprised and amused us, the process felt more like a dance rather than a familiar material application technique.
Keeping this series open-ended, we continue to observe where takes us.
We began the Whatmans in 2024, the paintings are yet to be exhibited later in 2025. A little work in progress:
The name of the series is reminiscent of James Whatman Sr., an 18th-century English paper manufacturer who introduced wove paper: he did it with the help of a new mould that made it possible to obtain sheets of paper without traces of a metal grid.
